Red Wing Black Birds

Red Wing Black Birds On The Wing.

A deduction of fact that is likely false: Red Wing Black Birds are East - West rather than North - South birds. My supposition is based on two trips in Northern Indiana within about a month. Traveling along US 30 headed West to Munster to meet Sara's family, the fence lines were bracketed with large quantities of Red Wing Black Birds.

This is the glorious memory bird of my much younger days... 50 years ago? We see few of them here in Elizabeth at the Edge of the Earth. Returning home at that time, I saw plenty of Red Wing Black Birds on Hwy 30, but few on I-69 & I-65 North and South.

The most recent trip to the same area was for Sara and Hillary's wedding. The wedding was something to behold. Marty and I are proud to be part of these families. Worthy of thoughtful discussion certainly, but I am talking birds here. This trip was almost all North- South. Once we passed Indianapolis I did see Red Wing Black Birds but sparingly.

Returning South down I-65 I did see more birds, but nothing like the quantity along US 30. My comments are not worth much. Our feeders are full of colorful finches, wrens, field birds, cardinals, but no Red Wing Black Birds.

We reside at the Edge of the Earth which must run North - South, and Red Wing Black Birds are nervous about faults. Our fox is active and disdains interruption while looking for a meal in the long grass. Add a new found ground hog to the wild life and provide me with a better compass for my bird watching.

The wild flowers are fighting for space in the tall grass, and may win. The color of the daisies makes the day a little better
