Grand Mother

Grandmother’s Cricket

Mary and her sister visit their 92 year old mother in the assisted living facility frequently, but they alternate weekends when it comes to getting the few pills and medication set out for the forthcoming week. It is not a difficult task, and does give them more time with Mom.

Last Saturday Mary is putting the pills in the daily medication holder when she hears and sees the hazard detection alarm blinking and beeping, signaling that a new battery was required. Mary hops on a chair, removes the battery, and every alarm in the 102 bed wing goes off.

The attending nurse quickly establishes that there is no major issue, just a dying battery, and calls off the response team. Mary is embarrassed. But there is more.

Her mother sheepishly pulled out a yard stick with a cloth tied to it. For a week she had been on her hands and knees under the bed, dresser and in the closet, chasing a cricket. At least the dust bunnies were gone. She is still spry at 92!
